Chess bot: Social robot design
In a course focused on social robotics, I co-designed Chess Coach: a desk light robot that teaches beginner chess players through expressive, socially aware interactions. We explored how a simple embodied robot can communicate coaching behaviours using multimodal cues (movement, light patterns, and sound) to provide hints, encouragement, and time notifications without relying on a screen-based interface. The project also considered ethical aspects such as accessibility, sustainability, and avoiding user over-reliance, supported by personas, storyboards, and scenario-based prototyping.
